What keeps your team from realizing its highest potential?

Barry Heermann, Creator of TEAM SPIRIT, says:

"Much of the rhetoric of team development focuses on modifications to organization and team structures and form. These are important innovations, but are insufficient to explain or to facilitate the breakthroughs that a high performing, spirited team can provide.

A different dimension of thinking is required. I suggest that what is strategic is the unseen. That what is incumbent for organizations is to work with values and skills that promote powerful, reinforcing relationships that ignite the spirit of the team."

The TEAM SPIRIT SPIRAL offers teams a tool to develop this unseen dimension. Both new and mature teams benefit in discovering their spirit. This leads to renewed energy and the ability to achieve results in ways not previously envisioned.

Lively exercises

The exercises that are used to guide participants through the Team Spirit Spiral are simple, yet engaging and illuminating. Team members often engage in these experiences with the purpose of addressing and resolving problems they are currently experiencing.

Visible improvement, measurable results

Participants and team members emerge from the Team Spirit workshop visibly refreshed, with even the most cautious, skeptical or jaded of workers routinely exhibiting greater spontaneity, confidence and optimism. The results, however, go far beyond positive attitudes and energy.

In one case, a team was able to secure a multi-million dollar venture capital funding as a result of the Visioning and Claiming work they had done in their Team Spirit Workshop. In another case, a board that had all but ceased functioning was able to renew its relationships and reconceptualize its entire organization. In still another case, a chronically underperforming corporate division met and exceeded its company standards within one year of engaging in the Team Spirit program.

Initiating - Team members come together to establish their relationships and direction. They begin to create a sense of belonging and trust.

Visioning - Team members envision what they can create together, see the possibilities for developing breakthrough solutions, and realize that they can accomplish far more collectively than separately.

Claiming - Team members empower themselves by defining the goals, roles, competencies and resources necessary to realize their shared vision.

Celebrating - Teams recognize and affirm both their collective and individual accomplishments and acknowledge what their work as a team has made possible.

Letting Go - Team members acknowledge and accurately communicate their frustrations, disappointments, and withheld thoughts in a manner that is forthright and constructive. This clears the way for future endeavors.

Service - Service is the Spiral's core. Commitment to all elements of the Spiral results in the team's capacity to serve customers with integrity and exceed expectations.
