Critical Event Debriefing Service for your Team


Following a critical event in your organization—any situation which taxes people’s usual coping skills—such as death of a coworker, injury to a client, threat to one’s life, etc., our highly trained and experienced critical event response team will provide psychological debriefing services to persons impacted by this event. As a part of this process, we will conduct an initial assessment in order to determine who was likely impacted by the event and to what extent. We will then schedule individual and team debriefing sessions as necessary. During the sessions, we will utilize one of the best-researched models of psychological debriefing—Critical Incident Stress Debriefing (CISD). Following debriefing sessions, those persons who are believed to be in need of further assistance, will be referred for appropriate follow-up services, such as mental health support.

Training Objectives:

Critical Incident Stress Debriefing has a number of primary and secondary goals.  

The primary goals for your organization participating in this service following a critical event include:

  • To mitigate the impact of the critical incident on those affected by the event.
  • To bring or facilitate psychological closure to a traumatic event.
  • To accelerate expected normal recovery process in normal people who are experiencing normal stress reactions to abnormal traumatic events.
  • To perform psychological triage, that is, to identify individuals within the group who might be in need of additional support, such as an Employee Assistance Program or psychological counseling.

Secondary goals for your organization participating in this service following a critical event include:

  • To educate participants about expected stress reactions and effective coping techniques.
  • To provide participants with opportunity to vent their emotions.
  • To reassure participants that the stress response is controllable and that recovery is likely.
  • To help participants anticipate stress reactions which they may experience in the near future.
  • To help normalize participants’ experiences regarding the traumatic event.
  • To enhance team’s cohesiveness.
