Due to the complex nature of Autism, parents and staff can find it challenging to work with someone who is affected by the disorder. Understanding this disability, however, can make a great difference in the way families support this person.
This seminar is designed to be an experiential introduction to working with people with Autism. This seminar does not cover specific medical or scientific information, but rather provides practical approaches to considering and accepting the behavior of a person with Autism through the use of participatory exercises and anecdotal evidence.
This 2-Hour seminar uses the following exercises:
- Staff will be exposed to a variety of metaphors for understanding the thinking process of a person with Autism.
- Staff will learn about a variety of methods that people with Autism use to relate to their environment.
- Staff will apply the above principles to the specific individuals they serve.
- Staff will be provided with the opportunity to discuss specific challenging situations and formulate plans for supporting more positive outcomes.
- Staff will be provided with reference for further reading and study.
Price: On location seminar for up to 20 people = $250 flat rate.
