Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is primarily a philosophy, which is operationalized in practice through the set of skills used by doctors, therapists, social workers and paraprofessionals to engage people in the process of change. These microskills are known as OARS (open-ended questions, affirmations, reflective listening, and summaries).

This 7-hour training is a very basic introduction to the philosophy, and includes the spirit of MI, the Stages of Change model and how to assess clients' readiness to change, review and practice of the OARS microskills, and explanations and demonstrations of the concepts of Change Talk and dealing with client resistance.
