Description:
This training will provide participants with (1) an overview of how mental illness is identified and diagnosed; (2) a review of common adolescent mental disorders (e.g., mood and behavioral disorders); and (3) recommendations for working effectively with adolescents affected by mental illness.
Audience:
Anyone who might come in contact—professionally or as a lay person—with an adolescent affected by mental illness.

By the end of this training, participants will
- learn the process which professionals in the mental health field should complete before arriving at a diagnosis for an individual
- become familiar with common mental disorders typically diagnosed in adolescence, including their symptoms and observable signs
- learn available treatment options for these disorders
- learn effective ways to interact and work with adolescents affected by these disorders.
