WISHA requires that many organizations provide Bloodborne Pathogens training to their staff. The Bloodborne Pathogen Instructor Training Program provides an instructor certification option for those organizations wishing to have the ability to provide this training to their staff independently, therefore minimizing the costs and logistical issues often associated with hiring an instructor to teach.  

The transmission of bloodborne pathogens creates a risk in society and in the workplace, especially those workplaces that involve the provision of personal care.  You will learn about both the biology and psychosocial issues related to HIV and the hepatitis viruses.  You will examine organizational options for protecting staff from exposure as well as training requirements for this topic.  Experts from the field are used to stimulate discussion, and to provide a more comprehensive understanding of the topics.

• develop a working knowledge of the etiology of HIV and Hep B
• gain current knowledge of research related to the HIV virus and its treatment
